Call for Submissions: Triangle Fire anthology

Talking to the Girls: Intimate and Political Essays on the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire edited by Edvige Giunta and Mary Anne Trasciatti

Essays are sought for an anthology that considers the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire of March 25, 1911 from diverse contemporary perspectives.

Essays may address personal, national, and global issues and will be rooted in individual authors’ interest in and involvement with the Triangle fire as activists, scholars, writers, and artists. We are especially interested in contributions by family members of people connected with the fire. Each essay will consider the fire from a distinctly formulated personal vantage point to explore its political and cultural resonance in the twenty-first century. Thus the book as whole does not intend to provide an overview of the history of the fire or a compendium of scholarly perspectives or a survey of the diverse political and cultural initiatives surrounding the fire over the last century. Rather, it aims at providing an intimate, visceral, and even lyrical expression of the historical and cultural legacy of the Triangle fire. Research and citations can be incorporated into the essays as long as they follow the format of the personal essay.

500-word proposals are due by August15, 2017. Please include a bio that highlights the author’s connection with/and interest in the fire. Please email proposals to: egiunta@njcu.edu and mary.anne.trasciatti@hofstra.edu
